Council Introduces Unoccupied Property Incentive
Unoccupied property insurance clients may well benefit from reduced council tax on their empty homes. The condition is that the empty property owner needs to help the council in bringing back the vacant home into residential use.
This new incentive of discounting the council tax on unoccupied homes has been introduced by Central Bedfordshire, after it came to alight that there were over 3000 vacant properties in the county as of October 2009.
Councils throughout the UK are being offered fantastic incentives by the Government to bring back unoccupied properties into residential use. This will financially help the local councils and also improve the area where these empty homes are. These vacant properties are often targeted by vandals and can cause distress to neighbours.
Communities Minister Mr Stunell has urged local communities to work in partnership with their council to identify unoccupied homes. The extra money raised by the council in reusing these empty homes can be used to improve the neighbourhood.
The major concern of the Government and local residents where these empty properties are tend to be of squatters moving in, vandalism and anti social behaviour. This often causes misery and distress to local residents, particular to the elderly.
